Keri Russell's intentionally undone low bun was the perfect complement to the shimmering white Chanel tweed suit that The Diplomat actress wore to the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, says her hairstylist, Brian Magallones.
"I wanted to keep it cool and effortless yet classic and chic, so I decided to pull her hair back off her face and put it in a low knot," Magallones says, "imperfectly perfect, in keeping with the cool, chic vibe."
Magallones used milk_shake hair products to create the style for Russell, nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
Here is the celebrity stylist's breakdown of the look:
Step by Step
- After showering, before blow drying her hair, I lightly misted her hair with incredible milk leave-in treatment, which really helped to detangle her hair.
- I rubbed 2 drops of incredible serum between my palms and ran it through her hair to help prevent frizz and add shine.
- I blow-dried hair to get it nice and smooth, and as I did, I misted each section with lifestyling flexible hold hairspray.
- The next step was to curl her hair with a large barrel curling iron, again, misting with the flexible hold hairspray along the way. Pro tip: Anytime you put hair into a bun, always curl first with a curling iron to help mold it into the style and to prevent flyaways. It gives a much cleaner finished look.
- I then sprayed lifestyling dry shampoo into her hair to give it some texture, I then finger-combed her hair back and secured it in a low ponytail. I applied lifestyling smoothing cream to the ponytail to smooth it out.
- Next, I formed the bun by twisting the hair around the base, pinning it into a messy bun.
- I finished the look with a good spray of lifestyling extra strong hairspray and a light mist of incredible oil to keep her hair holding and shining all night long.
