Celebrity hairstylist Brittany Leslie turned up the volume on Kelsea Ballerini's hair during her 2025 tour to mark the singer-songwriter's personal milestone: her sold-out Nashville show.
“For Kelsea‘s first time headlining (and selling out) Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, we wanted to pull out all of the stops and add some extra volume throughout her gorgeous hair," Leslie says.
She used hairtalk tape-in extensions to create Ballerini's wow moment onstage. Below is the style breakdown.
Step by Step
- I began Kelsea’s style with a big bouncy blowout. First I applied a good amount of styling mousse and heat protectant spray to wet hair and combed through evenly.
- Next, using a vented round brush, I dried the hair in sections, making sure to lift up at the root for volume.
- Once all of the hair was dry, I separated a horizontal section near the nape of the neck. Using a rat-tail comb, I lifted a small section of hair and placed the first Original Plus Tape-In Extension on the underside, about a quarter inch off of the head to allow for natural movement.
- Next I sandwiched the hair by placing another extension over the first and firmly pressed the tapes together.
- Kelsea’s hair is highlighted, so for a natural look, I like to mix shades. I use more of the extensions that match her lowlights towards the underside, and her highlight color towards the top. To achieve this, I used hairtalk shades 62, 67, and 62/18R.
- Once the first row was placed, I quickly sealed the tapes using a straightening iron on a low heat before moving onto the next section. About an inch above the previous row, I began the next section laying the extension in a brick pattern for natural coverage. I continued this process with sections up to the temples.
- Once all the extensions were placed, I added soft texture to the hair with a 1.5” curling iron and a flat iron. Starting again with a section at the base of the hair and working towards the top of the head, I alternated waving 1” sections of hair with both tools to achieve a more natural texture.
- I finished the look with a volumizing hairspray to lock in the texture without weighing down the hair.
